The Cinema of the Global Black Diaspora Returns to Minnesota
The Black Europe Film Festival returns for its third edition, with screenings at the Main Cinema and Capri Theater. Our 2027 theme, Black Connections, brings films by Black filmmakers in Europe and across the global diaspora into conversation with one another—and with audiences here in the Twin Cities.

2027 theme · BLACK CONNECTIONS
Black stories move across borders, generations, languages, and art forms. Black Connections is an invitation to discover what becomes possible when we experience these stories together.
This year’s festival expands BEFF’s reach across the global Black diaspora while sustaining our commitment to Black cinema from Europe. Screenings and conversations will connect visiting artists with local communities, students, and audiences whose experiences and perspectives give the films new life beyond the screen.

Afrodescendant cinema
The Black Europe Film Festival of Minneapolis/Saint Paul brings films by Black filmmakers from Europe and across the global diaspora into conversation with Twin Cities audiences.
Rooted in community collaboration, the festival presents documentaries, fiction features, and shorts alongside conversations with visiting artists. Its third edition builds on two years of screenings and exchange, widening its focus to the connections among Black communities, histories, and creative practices across borders.

Bring BEFF to your campus or venue
Universities and cultural institutions can host a curated portion of the festival. We offer film programs—organized thematically or geographically—that adapt to different audiences, formats, and budgets. Each showcase can include screenings, discussions, masterclasses, and virtual or in-person visits from BEFF filmmakers and guests.
